Environmentalist need black church & Community (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/environmentalists-need-the-black-church-community_us_58882290e4b04251e621fa48)

Description: Article written that prompts new audiences to be front leaders in climate change and environmental justice.

Analysis: I come from a religious family. My great grandfather is a Bishop of the Church of God in Christ in Chicago. I grew up in church and understand some of the barriers in conveying environmental aspects to that audience.

This article specifically discusses how black people and people of color in general are disproportionately affected by environmental injustice. Religious voices in certain communities are so strong and having them be the voices of environmental education could have great impact.

Reflection:

On a personal level, I am always seeing how I can translate environmental concepts to my family back home in Chicago. Often times, the language of the conservation and environmental field is so isolating and is probably why sometimes it can be ineffective in some communities. I know that that churches are close-knit communities and can be such a catalyst in making environmental education more accessible.
